2 nuits, 3 jours, les Thermes, l’hôtel, cette vue, et rien de plus.  Moi qui suis généralement hyper active, car animée par une très forte curiosité, quand je suis arrivée à l’Hotel Therme Vals je n’ai eu qu’une seule envie : y rester. Cet hôtel est une destination en soi. Il règne dans ce lieu paisible une irrésistible atmosphère sixties qui vous fait voyager dans le temps. Entre les sons retro jazzy émanant de ce trio de musiciens au bar et le décor composé de dizaine de pièces de designers/ architecte comme Le Corbusier, Mies Van Der Rohe, Eilen Gray, l’Hotel Therme Vals est, comme on le dit aujourd’hui, « vintage ».

I am usually hyper active because I am animated by a strong curiosity, but when I arrived at the Hotel Therme Vals I had only one desire: to stay. This hotel is a destination in itself. It reigns in this peaceful location, an irresistible sixties atmosphere that takes you back in time. With retro jazzy sounds emanating from the trio of musicians at the bar and the decor consisting of  pieces by designers / architects like Le Corbusier, Mies Van Der Rohe, Eilen Gray, Hotel Therme Vals is, as we say today , « vintage ».

Les Thermes | Eloge de la Nature

Le quartzite de Vals est extrait à Vals même depuis des centaines d’années, Les thermes sont constituées de pierres plates stratifiées en couches, les plaques ont été soigneusement découpées et numérotées selon les indications précises de Peter Zumthor, puis montées conformément aux plans. L’apparence monolithique des blocs forme une sorte de «tissu minéral». L‘espace méandreux entre les blocs cherche toujours la lumière, se dirige vers le point de vue où les blocs encadrent en de grandes images la vue sur le paysage, le versant du côté opposé de la vallée.» explique Peter Zumthor. Cet espace rend autant hommage à la lumière qu’a l’ombre. En nageant langoureusement dans les eaux des thermes l’architecte nous propose une balade sensorielle. Tour à tour notre corps se retrouve plonger dans le bassin lumineux extérieur face a une majestueuse montagne puis dans des couloirs sombres menant à des espaces fermés, calme, ou parfois flottent des pétales de fleurs odorantes. Dessiné par Peter Zumthor, Therme Vals est un exemple dans le monde entier de genie d’architecture.

Thermes | Praise of Nature

Quartzite has been extracted in Vals for hundreds of years, the baths are made of laminated layers of flat stones, plates were carefully cut and numbered according to the specific indications of Peter Zumthor, and mounted in accordance with the plans. The monolithic appearance of the blocks forms a sort of « mineral fabric. » The meandering space between the blocks always seeks the light, and focus the point of view on the big picture frame windows with views of the landscape and the slope on the opposite side of the valley. Says Peter Zumthor. This space makes as much a homage to the light than the shade. Swimming languidly in the waters of the baths the architect proposes a sensory ride. Our body is at once found in the light in a plunge pool outside facing a majestic mountain and on another occasion in the dark corridors leading to enclosed spaces, quiet, where sometimes floating petals offer fragrant flowers. Designed by Peter Zumthor, Therme Vals is a beautiful example of great architecture.

If you have time I recommend you to do the 6 hours 3 lakes treck. It is suppose to be one of the most beautiful tour in the region of Grisons. he wonderful high altitude cirque lakes sparkle in blue and green tones in the sunshine and the alpine landscape is magnificent.
